What are the key differences between RESTful APIs and SOAP APIs, and when would you choose one over the other?

In my final year of college, I worked on a project where we developed a RESTful API for a campus event management system. This API allowed users to create, update, and manage events using HTTP requests. We decided on REST because it was simpler to implement and more intuitive to work with, especially for our front-end developers. The project taught me the practical benefits of using REST APIs, such as their stateless nature and the ability to easily integrate with web applications.
