Can you explain the difference between HTTP and HTTPS and why HTTPS is important for web security?

During my final year in college, I worked on a group project where we developed a simple web application. We initially used HTTP for our application, but during our research, we learned about the vulnerabilities associated with it, such as data interception. As a result, we decided to implement HTTPS instead. This change allowed us to encrypt the data transmitted between users and our server, which significantly enhanced the security of user information, like login credentials. Presenting this project helped me understand the importance of web security and how HTTPS protects against attacks.

While volunteering for a local non-profit organization, I helped create promotional materials for a campaign on safe internet practices.
