What are the key principles of RESTful API design and why are they important?

In my final year at college, I worked on a project to develop a RESTful API for a library management system. The goal was to allow users to search for books, borrow them, and manage returns. I applied key REST principles by ensuring stateless interactions, which meant that each request from the client contained all the information needed to process it. This not only simplified the architecture but also improved the scalability of the API. I also utilized standard HTTP methods like GET for retrieving book information and POST for adding new books. The project taught me how crucial these principles are for creating APIs that are easy to understand and use, especially in a collaborative environment.
