What are the key differences between RESTful and SOAP web services?

During my final year in college, I worked on a group project where we had to create a simple web application that provided weather data. We decided to use RESTful web services because they were easier to implement and required less overhead. By utilizing JSON format for our data exchange, we could quickly retrieve and display weather information. This experience taught me not only the fundamental differences between REST and SOAP but also how REST's simplicity made it ideal for our project.
