What are some common security best practices when developing web applications?

During my final year at college, I worked on a web application project as part of my coursework. Understanding the importance of security, I researched common vulnerabilities like SQL injection and cross-site scripting (XSS). To mitigate these risks, I implemented input validation and used prepared statements for database queries. I also incorporated HTTPS to secure data transmission.
